Vera Roberts...Til Tomorrow!

Hello everyone,

It is my pleasure to welcome the insightful and talented Vera Roberts to my Room today! Not only is Vera here to tell us about her sexy book Til Tomorrow, she is dishing on the benefit of erotica in a healthy relationship. There are still some who believe it is harmful, and Vera is here to set them straight.

Welcome, Vera!

Why Erotica Can Help – Not Harm – a Relationship.

I’m sure everyone has heard of the wildly popular Fifty Shades of Grey series that has exploded within the past year. The numerous parodies and commentaries that have followed since its release have also been quite popular as well.

On my personal Facebook page, I used to follow a religious group, ‘I am a Christian.’ Yes, I just mentioned my faith and Fifty Shades of Grey in the same post. Stay with me, here. Anyway, I used to follow the page until recently. Why the change?

The owners of the page thought they should let everyone know how they felt about Fifty Shades and erotica as a whole. Many women have said the book has helped them with not only their relationships and marriages, but overall about themselves and express what they wanted. The owners disagreed, saying books like Fifty Shades were just a temporary fix in a marriage and porn never solves anything.

Needless to say, I disagree.

The main issue I have with religion is it almost brainwashes a person in believing sex before marriage and masturbation are wrong, wrong, wrong. So when a person does get married, guess what? The freak wants to come out and play. And the freak wants to play in a big way.

All of a sudden, the things that were deemed bad, they kinda feel good, don’t they? Oral sex (which is considered sodomy) feels great! Masturbation is awesome!

So what does this have to do with Fifty Shades? I’m glad you asked. When someone attacks erotica and puts the enjoyment of it as some type of evil and unforgivable sin, I have an issue with it.

Religious beliefs should not dictate your sex life. Common sense and personal well-being should. You need examples? Here you go. Getting spanked? Good. Being restrained while your lover pours honey over your body and licks it? Good. Sleeping with someone else’s man? Very, very bad.

Erotica, for the most part, is very enjoyable. Porn, for the most part, is very enjoyable. The two are similar yet they’re quite different.  Let’s keep it real here. When’s the last time you’ve heard of someone committing a heinous crime because they’ve watched too much porno or they read a smoking hot erotic romance? (And before anyone uses the porn-rape analogy that has been tirelessly and erroneously used, let me point out if that argument was remotely true, the porn industry would’ve been shut down a long time ago.)

To say erotica and porn will ultimately destroy relationships just because you don’t like it, what kind of ass-backwards logic is that? These people do know there is erotica in the Bible, right?

Erotica is fun and sexy. I won’t lie and say I haven’t learned a thing or two (or three or four) from my fellow erotica/erotic romance authors. My husband and I haven’t been married very long but our sex life is pretty off the chain. What sexier way to ‘set it off’ with your lover by surprising them with someone you read in a book?

In conclusion, other people’s religious beliefs shouldn’t dictate what you should or shouldn’t enjoy behind closed doors. If no one is being harmed and there is pleasure all around, I say keep reading erotica and carry on.

Til Tomorrow:

Abigail Montgomery was the queen of Broadway and ready to make the big leap to a major record label. She had played America's Sweetheart for so long, she had the role memorized. Then she met him...

Julian Tanner was the toughest SOB anyone would encounter...in the ring. No squared circle was too daunting and no opponent was too fearsome. But behind his tough-guy demeanor was a gentle and sensitive soul. It was no wonder he fell for her...

She was the queen of her world. He was the king of his. Can they put their egos aside and rule together?

  2. I have been dealing with this a lot because I am a writer as well. I don't write erotica, but there are definitely premarital sex scenes and magic in my books.

I once tried to point out to someone that there was sex and magic in the Bible and they flipped out to the point where they basically banned me from speaking anymore.

A lot of religious people don't handle this stuff well, but lately, luckily, I found a group of religious people who accept me, know that I write this stuff, and have no desire to kick me out of their church for my sinful writing or whatever. It's been a relief.

  3. Thank you for your support and thank you, Ms. Rosanna, for having me here.

E.B., I can relate to you. While a lot of my religious/spiritual friends don't read my work, they respect what I write and they know that's just a small part of the whole picture. I certainly don't talk about my writing all the time other than to complain how knee-deep I am in editing (smile!).

I'm very lucky to have very understanding and tolerant friends.

  4. Very well said Vera! I agree completely. People have a choice in what to believe in, there is nothing wrong with that. The problem start when somebody tries to convince others that their way is better, and any other way is wrong because of some archaic belief that even they cannot explain. I always had a problem with accepting things just because somebody said so. People should lighten up a bit. I do get the reaction "OMG you read porn?" from time to time, and doesn't matter when I try to explain that it is not and there various degrees to it from light to smut, it is falling on deaf ears.
I am a bookworm and I read a lot of genres, but I AM reading. Some of the ones who point a finger, didn't pick up a book in ages, if ever. I tell them what I tell my son when he doesn't want to try a new food: 'don't say you don't like it, before you even try it'

'Till tomorrow' looks interesting, is it available anywhere else beside Amazon? I have a Kobo, so my books are ePub or PDF format.

Follow your dreams and believe in yourself.

    1. Hi seelk!

Thank you for the feedback. I do think as a society, we kinda went backwards on what is 'right', 'pure', and 'okay'. I don't think erotica and porn on the same thing, even though I have read some erotica that is straight-up porn! LOL. I do agree there are different levels of erotica from the lightly sensual to the DRIP variety (Don't Read In Public). I've known older women - women old enough to be my grandmother - who are avid readers of erotica. Is someone going to tell them they're wrong?

Til Tomorrow is also available on ARe, Barnes & Noble, and Smashwords! I think it's also available on iTunes as well.
