An update on my writing projects

God bless the inventors of social media. It allows authors to connect with our readers in timely fashion and keep them up-to-date on our latest news. I have been posting the odd tidbit of information on my pages but thought it might be best if I do a recap of how things are going on my various writing projects. After all, not everyone has a Facebook account (gasp!)

As you may have read, I do have a few books on the go. Thanks to everyone who has purchased a copy of Predator's Fire, Gemini Island Shifters 5, and for all the favorable reviews. I'm so pleased to see it embraced by the lovers of this series and new fans. The book is available everywhere ebooks are sold, including Amazon, B&N, ARE, Kobo and www.lsbooks.com.

Some have speculated who the next hero will be. I enjoy reading my reviews and seeing how readers take to the different characters. Although many have lobbied for confirmed mountain lion bachelor Connor, the next book will be a menage featuring Percy and Byron Moon, Killian's twin brothers. I have yet to start this book, but can confirm the heroine will be a feisty human redhead named Suzan.

I have a new release called Vice, soon to be published by Samhain Publishing. I am thrilled about this new venture. The contract has just recently been signed so I can't confirm dates or a cover yet but hope to hear more soon. I will share the info here as soon as I have it. Vice is a sizzling contemporary romance set in the Las Vegas casino world. Featuring a troubled casino owner hero named Liam Doyle and a heroine named Kate Callender, the story is a compelling one. Especially when you consider Kate runs a support group for the families of compulsive gamblers. This is a couple who should not be compatible in any way, but when Kate stages a protest at Liam's newest casino, their attraction reaches a boiling point.

I have talked a little bit about my Orkney Selkies. Book 3, brother Edan's book, has been started although I am still working out some kinks with the plot. Featuring a paranormal investigator heroine named Amy, this book will showcase yet another side of the magical location of Orkney, Scotland.

I have almost completed two other projects. One of them, tentatively entitled Night Lover, is a paranormal romance featuring a naughty incubus.  My heroine in this one, Renata Bruno, is a classical soprano from Toronto who suffers from some very odd nightmares, dreams featuring an ethereal creature who makes love to her, but who leaves her gasping for breath. Her adventures will take her to England for a music festival, where she comes in contact with her former lover and the tortured spirit who haunts her dreams. An awkward love triangle, to say the least.

And finally I have almost completed another contemporary romance called The Stand-In. I don't want to give too much away on this one because I am rather excited about the premise. However, I can tell you this: it will include some very odd weddings, a reluctant bridesmaid and the jaded, disgraced reporter who is forced to do a story on her. That's all you get for now!

I hope this answers your questions. Please feel free to drop me a line here or at the following links whenever you want to know more.

Cathy Spencer...The Dating Do-Over!

I meet so many wonderful authors online, but it's a special rare occasion when I meet one in person. Recently at a meeting of the Toronto Romance Writers, I had the chance to meet the lovely Cathy Spencer. As soon as she told me about her work, I knew I had to have her on my blog. She has a brand-new release and has graciously shared the info with us.
Welcome, Cathy!

Rosanna, thanks so much for inviting me to blog about my new contemporary romance, The Dating Do-Over. The release date was Thursday, September 18.

Here’s a brief synopsis:

Toronto school teacher Viv Nowak has a sympathetic heart and abominable taste in men. She expects an engagement ring when her live-in lover of six years lands a terrific new job in Vancouver. Instead, she gets dumped ‒ on Valentine’s Day! Everyone, from her best friends to her father to her estranged mother, has an opinion on how she should fix her life. Her friends even insist on a dating do-over. But will they like her choice when she finally decides what her heart wants?

There were two things on my mind when I came up with the concept for this story. One was that I was tired of heroines who are always brainy, independent, and spunky. Viv is a thirty-one-year-old woman who was cossetted by her father and dependent on her live-in boyfriend of six years. After her boyfriend dumps her, she begins to doubt her ability to choose a worthy mate. It doesn’t help when her two best friends say she is a magnet for the worst kind of man. So while Viv is big-hearted, generous, and loyal, she’s also naïve and too-trusting.

Secondly, I was thinking about the kind of world women were promised by the feminist movement, a world where women could have it all! But what if we didn’t want it all? What if having it all was just too exhausting? True liberation should mean the freedom to choose whatever makes us happy, whether it’s to have a big career, or no career at all. I explore this theme with the three major female characters: Sabrina, a single woman striving to make it big in the world of real estate banking; Julie, a teacher and single mother; and Viv, who’s ready to give up her career and raise children once she can find the right man.

Throw in home renovation, designer shoes, and dog fostering, and you have The Dating Do-Over! Included in the Afterword is a recipe for the world’s best banana layer cake.

E-book available at Amazon Kindle, Apple iTunes, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords and most e-book retailers.

Fall always feel like a romantic season to me. The colder weather here in Toronto just encourages snuggling and warm fires and close contact. The air is redolent with pumpkin spice and turkey seasoning. Leaves crunch underfoot. And there's nothing nicer on a chilly day than drawing near to a loved one for some quiet time.

Tell me how you love spending a fall day and you might win Predator's Fire. Please comment below and I will choose the answer that most makes me nostalgic for the season.

In the meantime, please enjoy this snippet from my book and let me know what you think!

Blurb:

When Nina Suzuki discovers the body of her best friend Janine, her world turns upside down. Things go from bad to worse when Janine’s corpse seems to transform into that of a large, brown wolf. For the first time, Nina is faced to confront all the clues indicating her BFF was not what she seemed. A letter from the dead woman opens Nina’s eyes to a strange, new world. The same letter warns of a sinister group called the Alpha Brethren, and urges her to find Killian Moon of the Ursa Fishing Lodge and Resort on Gemini Island.
Killian Moon is a jaguar shifter and teen mentor at the Ursa Lodge in Northern Ontario. He may be a comfort and inspiration to confused teen shifters, but he also has a fiery past. His past comes back to haunt him when human Nina arrives at the resort, demanding to speak with him. Demanding answers. Can he trust her with knowledge that will not only change her life, but possibly endanger those around him?
As Killian begrudgingly tutors Nina on all things shifter, their mutual curiosity flares into passionate need. Once they touch, once they succumb to desire, there is no going back. Killian realizes Nina is his mate and they both begin to comprehend the terror threatening those on their shifter-friendly island. He is forced to confront the tragedy in his family and determines to protect Nina at all costs.
But can they protect everyone they love from a cult of dangerous shifters, intent on horror and destruction?

Excerpt:

“How much longer do I have to wait? I want to see Killian Moon. Now.”
The feminine voice, strangely soft despite its insistence, echoed deep in his being, awakening his jaguar. The great cat roared to life, turned toward the office and inhaled deeply. Its eyes flashed in interest.
In...recognition?
Killian breathed in at the same time, catching the scent of cherry blossoms through the door. The sweet perfume, mixed with human outrage, proved a heady distraction, making him forget why he was there. Shaking his head, he tried to dismiss the odd sensation as Ryland opened the door.
The door swung open and the first person he glimpsed was one of the clerks from reception, trying his hardest to placate the unexpected guest. “I’m sure Mr. Snow and Mr. Moon will be right back.”
And then his gaze landed on the petite human. Tapered Asian eyes, so dark and mysterious, but rimmed with circles of exhaustion. Smooth, cinnamon skin hinted at a mixed background. Wearing no makeup, she appeared younger than she must be, but her presence and keen eyes pegged her at around thirty years old. She had a riot of curly, black hair and feminine curves that ought to come with a warning. He could see it now. Beware: this woman’s body will cause insanity in men. Even as she gesticulated at the clerk, her boobs jiggled in such a way his throat went dry.
He pictured her in a corset, her breasts spilling over delicate lace edging, and almost forgot his name.
This Nina Suzuki was damn hot and his jaguar seemed to agree. The animal licked its lips, its golden gaze assessing and appreciating every detail, from her rounded hips to her come-hither rack.
Yes, the creature uttered on a frenzied breath.
